And how do you get an "Upgrade Protection" contract? > You have to contact your IBM Account Executive (how many of us non-corporate > people have one of those????) and pay approximately $200 per license (for an > operating system that only cost me $89 retail????). Ahem. We lucky OS/2 users got Netscape for free. Other people are _supposed_ to pay for theirs, unless you are a student. Now we have to pay like everyone else. For what appears to be a top-notch product on par with anything on the Win95 side. Is there something wrong with this? Hey, we might even get Lotus Smartsuite 97 for OS/2 sometime, don't suppose we'll get that free either. Darn, eh? The upgrade protection, if I understand correctly, allows you all the upgrades for X years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that includes Warp 5 as well. Check out the Win95 guys. You can't even download the OSR2 release. You gotta buy a whole new package of Win95. How much is that going to cost you? We've just been a bit spoiled in this regard, what with Fixpacks always available for free.... Anyways, read the description for TCP/IP 4.1, Joe Average user doesn't need this upgrade! Joe Average doesn't know what DDNS or DHCP is and I doubt the average dial-up user will notice any performance difference.. If you want the Year 2000 upgrade, it _is_ available as a free download.
