Seeking Dux Patches

Hello all

I've just acquired the final versions of Dux Bookshelf, American
Heritage Dictionary with Roget's Thesaurus II and SimCity Classic.

They work pretty well under Warp 4 but there are some minor problems
that require a patch or two. I know DUX released the patch or patches
in late '96 or early '97 before they stopped selling the product but I
can't find an FTP or HTTP site that has these.

Could some kind soul please give me a known working URL to retrieve
these patches, or perhaps e-mail them to me as .zip files?

Thanks and regards

Cameron

You're fortunate indeed to be able to run them under Warp 4 -- since
some fixpack the Dux apps have been dead, dead, dead for me (and a
number of others). The patches don't work for everyone (and for some
people they actually make things worse) -- patched or not, frankly I
wouldn't rely on'em because the odds are one day you'll click on them
with nothing to show for it but an ever-expanding POPUPLOG.OS2 log.

Some years back I sent a number of emails reporting all the problems
to the Dux people -- heard from one of them 18 monhts later, the guy
said basically, forget about it, we don't do OS/2 anymore.

Now, what I'd love to see is the Dux apps released open-source, so we
could perhaps compile them to run under EMX. Hey, don't even release
the databases -- sell those, just let us access them via OS/2...

Sir:
Thanks for informing me that some patches exist. But my version 2.0
seem to work fine as is. Guess for that other fellow post I'm Lucky.
Did you check on Hobbes? <ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/00global.txt> is
the index file to that site.

Hi.

Have you looked at http://www.dux.com/ahdpatches.html

I just tried it. Server returend zero size currently but I guess that
problem will be corrected sooner or later. But looking at it thru the
Google cache the OS/2 patches seems to available. Not sure if this link
works for you:
http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:nKUoOcbaveU:www.dux.com/ahdpatches.html+&hl=en

Kind Regards
 knut

I have them but don't know if you want me to send them to you as I'm not sure how.

Hello Alan and Knut

Thanks, but another OS/2 user has e-mailed them to me and they've done
the trick.

Cache facilities are useful sometimes, but the Dux site has been off the
air for quite a while (although over the years it seems to have gone up
and down like a yo-yo).

Regards

Cameron

How about making them public or at least emailing me a copy so that I
may post it?

Hello Bill

If you'd like them, that's ok, I'll e-mail them to you now.

I presume you'll post them in some web depository or binaries group.
That's fine too.

Your message is a little short though, a bit of courtesy wouldn't go
astray.

Regards

Cameron
