K.-P. Kirchdoerfer [] -> comp.os.os2.misc:

 Martin;
 if I understood you correctly, NT currently does not support USB, DVD
 and Firewire?

Yes, that's correct.

That said I have seen USB mouse and keyboards running on NT4, and if you want
to you can of course (like some has) write your own USB driver for a special
product.

NT4 however has no USB support of it's own build in, and as it doesn't
currently support plug and play it won't handle USB very good even if it had
build in support for it.

The same goes for DVD (non standard in NT4, but vendors like Creative has
device drivers to get their DVD player to work in NT4) and FireWire (have seen
many card vendors implement their own Fire Wire drivers in NT4).

So in short: NT4 has no build in support at all for those new standards, but
if you write your own device drivers for an operating systems you can support
almost any hardware (which is what hardware vendors has done in this case).

 I'm suprised (having no experience with any release of NT) - even OS/2
 has some support of USB.

Well, the latest version of NT was released in 96 and those technologies
wasn't very common at that time (if present at all).

NT also, unlike for example Win9x and MacOS, currently has no true plug and
play support (which is really needed to be able to fully support USB and FW).

 (how long might NT-users have to wait for that features?)

To get build in support for it they have to wait until the they run the next
version of NT (final public beta in next week and release after the summer).

Best regards,
