I installed fp22 and got a pile of errors..relating to file dates. On
inspection I found that my bios clock had gone out to the year 2066. Files
written in the minutes before the upgrade showed my BIOS clock to be correct.
Something up there...

Me too!

After getting my system to go again, thank huey for the boot options!,
I found that i consistantly lost OS2.INI OS2SYSTEM.INI and CONFIG.SYS.

This is quite disasterous... after repeated reboots and diligently trying
things such as reboot from install floppy(s), (who has found the CHKDSK on
there floppys... that the docs refer to every where!), I found that I got
repeated errors regarding stack size from IBMDEV32.SYS which prevents a lot of
internet related stuff like WEBEXPLORER from working.

Yeup.. and no way of "resetting them"... I suspect they have lost the extended
attributes file.. after restoring to a prior setting on bootup.

I regret that i didnt do a ARCINST prior to the upgrade..

I later found only one of my install options would work at all.. despite
loosing all the calls to programmes on my FAT partition, mostly windows and
DOS apps anyway. (C:)

I have checked the integrity of the harddrives multiple times and continue to
find no errors. So i can only assume it OK.

:>>It seemed so bad that I decided:

Note: You cant just reinstall OS2 from CD as it detects that your on a more
recent version, and then goes onto say that you should abort and go with what
youve got.. Aaarrggh!

Does anyone know if you can tweak one of the OS2 files to override this..
memory suggests that I did this once to allow an update from an earlier
version of OS/2... but i dont recall the file name/location??

:>>(ii) (since my previous level of FPack had been 17 and it was no longer

I did the 17 fixpac on an another m/c and had no problems.. this was an update
to 22 direct from a mature native install of WARP CONNECT.

I called and got the $30bucks/15mins support.. no guarantee the advise would
fix any problem story.

I could neither backout fixpac 22 due to the file date problem/errors
noe could i sucessfuly recover from the "states" that I had reached in trying
to restore my desktop.. Aaarrgghh!

:>>why

For the same reason I chose OS/2 in the first place.

I hope Merlin has a better and less cryptic install/update mgmnt process.

I have rescued WARP so many times i deserve a humantarian honour for patience
in the face of extreme adversity!

Thoughts welcomed..
