| We have an IBM Model 90 with an IBM internal tape unit, which uses DC2120 tapes. Until recently, we
|were using OS/2 1.3 and were using a program called OS2TAPE for our backups. However, since we upgraded to
|OS/2 2.11, OS2TAPE likes to hang after it's done. When it's exiting back to the PM, the screen clears and ...
|tada! Nothing. It is possible to continue working (I love this feature of OS/2!) but the process CANNOT be
|killed (by any normal methods, or any that I have found short of restarting the system, that is...). The
|backups SEEM to be working OK, but we feel very uncomfortable about perhaps having to rely on this information
|to properly be restored (elegantly worded...).
|
| We contacted several people and companies about this, including IBM (since they wrote both OS/2 and
|OS2TAPE). After about an HOUR on tech support, they finally confirmed that OS2TAPE *did* exist (nice of them
|to confirm that the copy sitting in my hands was REAL...). Unfortunately, they did not produce it anymore.
|They sent us information about a fix called "The April Fix"... which was available to IBM internals only. :(
|
| Somewhere along the line, we got word of a program called PMTAPE, and have been searching for several
|weeks for somewhere to get it. Just Friday, we found out that IBM no longer makes THIS, either... sheesh.
|
| So basically, the story is that we are looking for a program that will properly run backups on the
|hardware that we have (IBM Model 90, a 486 MCA PS/2 w/ IBM internal tape drive). If you know of something, or
|where we can get a copy of PMTAPE, I would appreciate hearing it. I (and my boss(es), incidently) have run
|out of patience with IBM, and decided to turn to other sources.
|
|I would prefer responses emailed to me at dshaw@martha.washcoll.edu, but I will read these groups religiously
|for a while until we've got the problem fixed or I'm convinced that this is all pointless... :)
|
|TIA,
| Doug

Your easiest solution would be to order DualStore from IBM, it's the
program which replaced PMTAPE; and, I'm pretty (very) sure that it
support your ITBU. You can order Dual Store from IBM Direct; so,
forget about your rep and get those backups going again!
