Gradual slow-down under OS/2

I have been running Warp OS/2 running on real Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and
MS-DOS 6.22.

I have noticed that over time everything run more and more slowly. In particular
there seems to be ever increasing disk I/O as programs (especially windows ones)
are loaded or swapped.

Does anyone know what is happening and how I can reverse this slow down?

Regards,

Richard.

Just a guess...but how about fragmenting the disk on which your SWAPPER.DAT
file is? You may want to check that out.

Yep, and after you've done that, defragment it. :)

Have you set RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY in the config.sys? You could
have lots of little objects running around in the background. :)
Try running System information tool, in the memory bit it will tell you how
much memory is locked by OS/2. Shouldn't be too far off 2mb discounting your
cache size, when you have nothing running.

If you set the initial size of swapper.dat to 32mb or something, then it
probably won't have to grow, which is faster.

There is also a way to set whether each win/dos program you run is a true
virtual machine or just another session of the existing one. I can't remember
how to change this as I am not at my OS/2 machine, but I believe that you can
tell by looking at the window list. If successive windows programs are indented
under a 'WIN-OS/2' heading they not real VM's. Real VM's are much more
crash-proof, but take heaps more memory which would make swapping more necesary
and slow down restricted RAM PC's. Can't even remember where I heard this, but
I guess it's something to look up.

Well, that said I'm sure you've already solved your problem, and it was a tiny
insignificant thing (turbo switch? :).

Bye,

Sean.
