On 12 June around 8 pm local time I had bad experience with a page from Google. The page pointing to CDC, the publisher of BA/2, came up OK for a few moments but then before the "document done" message came up Netscape crashed with the message: Access violation at 1e968ac8 by PMMerge 0004:00138ac8. Because Netscape has occasionally failed like this before I tried accessing the page again. This time the page came up similarly but before loading was complete *OS/2* crashed with a Trap D at 0168:fff1f322-000e:c322. After restarting (twice because the WPS hung during the 1st restart) and trying again the loading failed again with the message: Access violation 1d4e59ef by Mozilla 0001:000059ef Again I retried and this time Netscape crashed but went zombie. It did not fully close, it could not be restarted and further it could not killed from Ctrl - "Swtich to another application" which showed the process was still running even though Windows list did not have it listed. Therefore another restart was necessary. Accessing the same page from a Windows machine (via LAN thru Injoy) with Netscape 4.76 brought the page up OK and I was able to complete my session with the CDC site. Netscape 4.61 is steadily getting more and more unsatisfactory. For example it ignores CSS code completely inside table constucts. Other CSS problems require time consuming work arounds. Probably it's these shortcomings that has prompted banks like St George to refuse to work with Netscape versions below 4.74 which unfortunately includes OS/2's Netscape 4.61 creating the issue with St George that came up a few weeks ago in aus.computers.os2. When is IBM going to move Netscape on? Victor Bien VCB Computing Alternatives (R) http://sydney.dialix.com.au/~vcbien/

Have you tried IBM's newest version of Warpzilla? It's a 15MB download at: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla0.9.1/mozilla-i386-pcos2-vacpp-0_9_1.zip Unzip it and click on the executable icon. That is the direction IBM is moving in. There does not seem to be much point in expending any more resources for updating Netscape v4.61.

Sorry, here's the correct link to Warpzilla: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla0.9.1/mozilla-i386-pcos2-vacpp-0.9.1.zip Victor Bien wrote: > > On 12 June around 8 pm local time I had bad experience with a page > from Google. Sir: I do expect one more release of Netscape 4.61 before Warpzilla goes GA this fall, but it may be a reserved feature. I base this opinion upon the testcase version that been floating around. IBM India seems almost finished with the bug fixing. Bill "David T. Johnson" wrote: > > Victor Bien wrote: > > > > On 12 June around 8 pm local time I had bad experience with a page > > from Google. Its downloading as I write this. When you're madly working away head down bum up you don't have the time to keep up with what's going on! <g> Thanks also to William Hartzell for a view of what's happening to NS 4.61. > > > > > Victor Bien > > VCB Computing Alternatives (R) > > http://sydney.dialix.com.au/~vcbien/
