Sound problems with Warp 3 - ESS1868 no go, ALS120 & Aztech - no sound!

I acquired enough parts cheaply enough to put together some Warp 3
boxes that may be saleable as a means of promoting OS/2. Star
Office wil be installed as the main app. These will be 486s on VLB
mainboards with a combo VLB video cum I/O card. The video chip is a
Cirrus Logic 5426. The uarts are only 8250s so one for a modem will
go through a supplemental serial card with a 16550 uart. The VLB
achieves reasonable video acceleration so the screen performance
looks acceptable to me.

I have applied FP39 to the base operating system (and left MMOS2
at FP26 for the present) but as noted before I couldn't get the
ESS1868 to work beyond FP26. I can't leave it at FP26 because the
latest Netscape 2.02 requires FP35 or above I think. When the
ES1868DD.sys device driver loads it crashes with a Trap D and the
following (excluding the register information - please tell me if
these are required):

location 0168:fff49162 - 000e:c162

6000 9084

048600b4
Internal revision 8.263_uni, 98/10/14

From previous communications in this group I got various versions
of the ESS1868 driver all with the same result, except that I
didn't note the location and other details each time.

Trying to use a sound card with a different chip led nowhere!
The Avance Logic System's ALS120 chip gives no sound at all. Same
with an Aztech 1605 or something like that. The device drivers
appear to load correctly as config.sys is processed but no sound.
The device driver packages were downloaded from ALS's and Aztech's
sites as something like ALS100+_W3.zip and Nova-OS2.zip, unzipped
and installed using MInstall. I commented out the lines invoking
the ESS driver. The other config.sys lines relating to D:\MMOS2
were left alone.

The ALS card works OK under Windows 3.11, didn't try with the
Aztech.

Wondering if any of you can help me get through this bog? I know
my Creative Sound Blaster card works (at FP39) but I don't want to
have to fit one of these since even now they are too expensive. My
idea is to produce a *low cost* Warp 3 box to maximise the chance of
getting new OS/2 users!

TIA

Victor,

Warp 3 with fp26 an eagle ess1868 sound card working fine when going to fp35
try using the old timer0.sys
driver. I know that's not the error you're getting but I have had this
happen to me once before, I ended up going back to fp26 for stability
reasons. I hope this works for you.
