Problems with Warp 4 and Drive A?

Hi,

I've been having lots of problems installing a number of software
on Warp 4. Basically when installing some windows and OS2 SW the
installation will fail or the installed program will be corrupted
in some way.

At first I thought it might be my FDD, so I changed it, but the same
thing occurred. So I tried installing the same windows SW on WFW 3.11
on the same machine and this seem to go fine, hence I concluded that
the problem is not HW.

The wierd thing is if I copy the disk to the ZIP drive attached to
the machine, the install is successful in Warp 4. I've also noticed
that files copied to the A drive of the Warp 4 machine is regularly being
corrupted.

Has anyone come across this problem before,and maybe have an idea of
a solution?

BTW I have Fixpack 1 installed and when I had Warp 3.0 installed on the
machine I had no such problems.

Cheers,
Randy

I too am having weird A drive problems. If I don't have a floppy in the
A drive when I boot up (my boot order is C:, A:) OS/2 reports "sector
not found" whenever I try to access the drive. If I boot with a floppy
in the drive it works most of the time. Although I also get many
reports of corrupted data, etc. even though the floppy disk works fine
when I boot into DOS or Windows...

I do not have any fixpacks installed.

Randy,

You may have problems due to extra floppy drivers and filters being
loaded in your config.sys file. There have been workarounds on this
for a while.

Try remarking out the lines shown below in your config.sys file if you
are *not* on a microchannel machine and your system is ISA.

BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
rem BASEDEV=IBM2FLPY.ADD
BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD
rem BASEDEV=XDFLOPPY.FLT

If you are on a microchannel machine then make the following changes:

rem BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
BASEDEV=IBM2FLPY.ADD
BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD
rem BASEDEV=XDFLOPPY.FLT

Let us know what happens!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, tried the above but it didn't
work. It probably gave me a little more memory though.;-)

I'm hoping the fix pack will be solve all my problems.

Cheers,
Randy

I would recommend you do NOT remove that one. The day will come when you
    need to read 1.8 Mb floppies and won't know why you can't.

John,

I have it REMarked out here and only intend to unremark it should I
ever need to read an extended density floppy. Since most users of
Warp 4.0 *should* have a CD version and can get service and fixes off
the 'net REMarking this should impose no real problem for most users.
Further *almost* all the diskettes most folks read and write are not
extended density so there is no real need to have that filter loaded
all the time. Of course we are all entitled to our opinions on this.
;-)

I have the exact same problem but it's my CD-rom that gives this error. Could
you let me know if you hear of a solution and I'll do likewise.

cheers, Alex.
