Just a suggestion for *nix newbies, try Mandrake Linux for your first installation experience. It has the highest rating for ease of installation (LINUXFORMAT.CO.UK). There are three experience levels to choose from. Give me a 2Gig partition anywhere on your disk and I can have a server running on it in as little as 28 minutes. BTW - Using the advanced user settings you will be given the choice of 5 levels of security medium should be high enough, high is for people who love pain and need long passwords (8+ characters) to feel safe.
