Hong,
I have the same printer. I called NEC and they said that they werenot going to
write an OS/2 driver. However, they are going to write a Windows95 driver.
Bullshit, Huh? So, I suggest you have your friend call and bitch themout as I
have many times. Maybe that way they will write a driver.
Okay, enough of that. Here is the work around that I have developed:
1) Set-up they HPIIp driver for OS/2 (choose the larger amount of memory and
DPI);
2) When choosing the port, check the "Print to file" box, this will have a
dialogue box pop up everytime you print from OS/2 asking you to name the file.
I always name mine c:\pcl\<insert_name_here>.pcl. This will create a PCL
(printer control language) file that the NEC can understand.
3) OK, here is the really nasty part. You have to then boot to dos, run windows
NEC from dos, open up the NEC print manager, choose add, choose the correct
directory and the correct file, choose okay and it will print. It understands
the PCL file if you send it from within windows. (PCL is HPs answer to
Postscript -- it is the language that controls the printer.)
There are obvious disadvantages to the above, but I cannot afford another
printer right now and this one was a gift. What I usually do is print
everything I need to different files before I boot windows and then I choose all
of the files during my one real dos/windows boot.
I hope this helps until enough of call NEC!!!!
