Just a thought - when reconfiguring the system, did you reboot, use
Alt-F1 and then select reversion to VGA? If so, I suggest reinstalling
the VGA drivers from the selective install object. I have seen the
behaviour you describe on other systems.

Re: reinstalling video drivers without running SVGA.EXE: I'd suggest
trying SVGA ON DOS under DOS, then renaming the resulting SVGADATA.DOS
to SVGADATA.PMI. Then, replace the SVGA.EXE program with anything else
that will run ineffectively - maybe XCOPY.EXE or something. It will
produce an error message but won't over-write the SVGADATA.PMI file
you've already created and installation can then continue correctly.

An alternative technique is to replace the Warp SVGA.EXE with the 2.11
SVGA.EXE - it will still work.

In both cases, be advised that after installation, the UNPACK utility
will have unpacked a new copy of the Warp SVGA.EXE so you'll need to
replace it before reinstalling each time. If you have the Warp
toolkit, you can use the PACK utility to create an updated VGA file
(I've been meaning to get around to doing that for my own system).
