Network Transformations
"Reinventing the wheel" does not translate into the language of network
computing. In the personal computing world of the past, there was often
the rush to throw out existing operating systems and applications at
the hint of a new product announcement. But this is not what the
Java-driven network computing model of the future is about. It's about
"connecting the wheels" to build a bigger, more functional business
machine -- without the sacrifice of crucial time and money.
We know this can be accomplished: We've made these new types of network
connections with OS/2. We have major customers who run their businesses
and develop applications on this platform. The recent introductions of
a faster and more tightly woven JVM and the WorkSpace On-Demand
thin-client make OS/2 a formidable network computing and Java
development platform.
The transformation of OS/2 is beneficial to everyone up and down the IT
totem pole. Developers have the freedom to create and deploy new Java
applications across diverse clients and servers, and the IT managers
can better manage and distribute their data. This is a pretty good deal
-- Java enables new connectivity and business opportunities by building
on existing investments.
