Dell and Winbook notebooks and OS/2

I've been looking at the Dell Latitude XPiCD M166ST and its Winbook
counterpart as possible OS/2 (Merlin) machines, but a DejaNews search
revealed problems with both. These included a lack of PCMCIA drivers,
difficulty getting better-than-VGA video driver support, and, for Winbook,
a serious installation conundrum that resulted from a single bay for a
swappable CD-ROM or floppy, with no hot swap support, while OS/2
required that both CD-ROM and floppy drives be available simultaneously.
But people tend to report dissatisfaction more often than success, and
perhaps others have found solutions to these problems.

So: Is anyone out there currently running OS/2 on either Dell or Winbook
portables? Are there any problems? Are there any insurmountable problems?
The sales folks at Dell say "we don't know whether OS/2 runs on our hardware
and we don't care." The folks at Winbook say "sure, no problem," but my last
notebook purchase (different company) involved a sales person who said the
same thing, and it was only when I needed to call technical support after
making the purchase that I was told that the salesperson "must have
misunderstood".

I'm open to other suggestions, if someone has had good experiences with other
notebooks.

Thanks,

David
