What the program does is download a block of keys (actually, it just gets the "start" key and explores the next 2^29 keys). It then replys back with your OS type, e-mail address, the start key and either a yes or a no if you found the key. _I_ don't think this would be prosecutable or not. You could think of someone encoding some paragraph with a Ceasar cipher (rotate all the letters by a certain count) and then asking 26 people if they could check one of the rotations and reply back either in the afirmative or the negative. >There is no way (unless one receives a letter from the government >blessing it) you can be sure that you are not violating anything if you >are located in the US. Agreed. Noone really knows how much the US would be able to prosecute. However, there are several companies (2.19% of total work) and a few US government sites participating in the challenge (0.11% of the total work so far). I think the government would have bigger fish to fry than us little guys! >In article <3WFezUaapGDE089yn@ibm.net>, >Ronald Van Iwaarden <rrt0136@ibm.net> wrote: >>For those who are interested, OS/2 has reached the number 10 slot on the DES >>Challenge attack at http://www.des.sollentuna.se/.
