I am sure this is not a new problem so my apologies to those who have seen this problem before. First some background. I have a pentium 90 system with 16Mb of ram and a Creative 16 PnP soundcard and a panasonic CR-581 quad speed CDRom player. I have warp blue spine on CDRom. I used to have warp installed quite happily with Win95 on my duel boot system. I took it off to free up some space for some software I no longer require. Now I want to re-install it onto the same system. When I first installed warp, I had a Vibra 16 (not PnP) soundcard with the same panasonic CRRom drive. The soundcard recently died and so I purchased the Creative 16 (PnP) card. It still installs the same Vibra16 drivers onto "C" drive and installs the same lines into my DOS autoexec.bat and config.sys files. So you think it would be the same only with plug and play capacity. This is where the fun starts because now when I insert disk 1 at the prompt it returns a bright red error message saying that the system cannot locate or operate any CDrom drives. I used to be able to install warp quite easily with my old soundcard and CDRom combination, but the drivers on the Disk 1 install disk are not able to locate the CDRom drive attached to the soundcard. I have tried the following three things: 1. I removed the file SBCD2.ADD from the config.sys on Disk 1 and downloaded the updated Creative CDRom drivers from the net. I can't remember what the driver is called (something like CCRD2.ADD) but I installed it to the config.sys file but had no luck, the system still could not recognise the CDRom drive. 2. I then downloaded the file WARPINST.EXE file from hobbes. I read on the web that this file updates the drivers on install disk 1. I followed the instructions and the new updated Disk 1 was created successfully. Unfortunately it still did not recognise the CDRom. 3. I then made a floopy disk copy of the system using the makedisk command on the CD. I then proceeded to install the software from floppy disk. I now have the software installed, but I have no sound from the soundcard, despite the install routine recognising the Soundblaster card and installing the Soundblaster driver, and I have no access to the CDRom drive which means I cannot load any of the programs off the bonus pack. What should I do next? Stephen Anderson Intellectual Property Officer BHP Email (home) steveja@werple.net.au (work) anderson.stephen.sj@bhp.com.au

For some reason (don't ask me) the IDE interface on your SB card isn't being recognised. If you have one IDE HD, plug the CR581 into the IDE adapter instead. (With any luck, either the cable that came with the CD or with the computer will have three plugs, for the adapter and two drives.) If you can it might be easier to put the CD on the secondary IDE port. The master/slave setting on the CD may need alteration (actually, you might want to try that while it's still connected to the sound card; it's not as likely to work but it's worth a try). If the CD works on your motherboard's (or adapter card's, if you're using one) IDE port, you're OK. The soundcard not being recognised is (I think) because you need a newer version of the drivers which are written for the PnP cards. If you can get these drivers, you should be able to use the CD connected to the soundcard again. -- Adam Fitzpatrick "Always burn your bridges behind you.
