IBM becomes a SPAM Sponsor!

I just this e-mail received from IBM today. I am really sick about it. What
the hell
is IBM thinking with this move into spamming. Is this their definition
of e-commerce? It looks like they are more screwed up than I
could possibly imagine. This just is just about the final straw in
my thinking about staying with IBM products like OS/2.

I would say that the message in question has a forged header to make it
look like it came from an IBM domain. The ad you displayed isn't an IBM ad -
the phone number given isn't even owned or controlled by IBM.

Get used to it. Spammers lie about who they are all the time. Nobody
particularily likes it, but it's hard to combat someone who hides behind false
addresses.

There's really only one solution. Everyone reading this post send me $1.
If you do this, you can get rich quick and improve your sexual performance
at the same time.

Gee, you don't think someone would alter a document
so it was obviously inaccurate and appear to be from
IBM, do you?

And then there are those who publish those inaccurate
documents so often they take on a life of their own
and are soon quoted and believed as truthful. But
that's crazy, isn't it? It could NEVER happen in the
OS/2 community.

Could happen, but if you have an allegation here, I'd like for you to
prove it.

The piece of spam in question wasn't from IBM, and this is readily
verifiable. Call up the phone number listed in the spam, or verify the number
with directory assistance. I did, so I have some proof.

You, however, live in a world of hyperbolie, where proof and truth is
meaningless. If you have some proof that someone has fabricated something as
being from IBM outside of the spam in question, then I invite you to bring it
forward.

     Thought not.

Hmmm - I hear that sending money to people named "Brad" also helps cure
insomnia, reduces hairloss, and helps trim flabby buttox and thighs.

     Is this true?

So, where are the headers? Without them, it's impossible to determine
where the e-mail originated (other than the indirect methods used
by other posters). Why not post the complete headers (most e-mail
programs will show them as an option) and let someone read them
and then you can send a report to their provider and maybe get them
canned. For help with this, post in news.admin.net-abuse.email or
post the headers here and I or someone else will help. It's not
all that hard to track down the poster if they didn't relay-rape
an open server.

Just my 2 cents,

Kevin

I don't know about the hairloss, but sending money to Brad can actually
increase the others due to spending long hours into the wee parts of the
morning with your butt in a chair playing GalCiv or Entrepreneur or .... ;-)

It is hard to believe that there are people as naive as James around! Of
COURSE this did not come from IBM! How could anyone with any knowledge
whatsoever of how the internet works possibly think this for a moment.
Well I guess that's the trouble, there are a lot of people on the net
at this stage who haven't a clue!

Read the charter Tim, read the charter. I don't live here like you. One
of the sadder things is to read the groups every few days and to see that
some people have timestamps on articles that go from early morning to late
at night, that is just sick.

I have an excuse, a reason and a purpose: I get paid to do it.

It is my job. I seek out and provide OS/2 news and information
to thousands of OS/2 users. You, on the other hand, do none
of those things. You don't even use OS/2.
