When I installed a Zoltrix 14,4 modem that does etc., etc. Only speaking as the deaf ear this problem fell on before from a friend, I'd say your sound card IRQ is conflicting. The voicemail modem cards have their own SB clone onboard, and it uses IRQ 5 in most cases, assuming your SB card follows Creative's original recommendation to use IRQ 7. Since most SB (and clone) owners have had difficulty with their sound card and printer on the same IRQ, Creative modified their position to recommend IRQ 5, normally used for LPT2. Now, I can't say you'll not have problems putting your SB back to IRQ 7, but I had the need to do this - three active COM ports requires three IRQs - and have had no problems yet. In fact, using Windows (until I get OS/2 fine tuned), I've used my 8-bit SB to both sample and play back while the print manager was printing, no problems were noted. Lastly, don't change the DMA address, or your DRQ (should be 1) because lots of programmers hard code this address, only checking your environment variable for the IRQ.
