I'd be glad on any clues for getting Banyan Vines 5.52 working over
OS/2 Warp. Please reply by email to <lms@lnec.pt>.
Basically, I've been charged to dump MS-DOS and replace it with
OS/2. :-) We will only need OS/2 as a way to start MS Windows (ie. we
won't develop any native applications for OS/2). There is no need for
Windows for Workgroups support. In fact, due to its nature, WfWG is
out of the question in our network.
What we want is:
OS/2 as a replacement for DOS
Banyan Vines (5.52) as network support, via NDIS (real mode is fine)
PC/TCP 2.2 running over the Banyan layer
Oracle SQL*Net over PC/TCP
Lightspeed over the Banyan layer
Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (or rather, Win-OS/2 :-) )
ODBC over SQL*Net
...and MS Access or MS Visual Basic on top of everything :-)
Possible? Well, almost. Banyan Vines' BAN /NC and NDDGBAN work fine.
When it reaches the REDIRALL program, this one complains about having
the incorrect DOS version to work with (I guess OS/2 Warp responds to
such requests with version 3.0). Setting REDIRALL's version to
anything above 3.2 crashes REDIRALL with a message like "No CLOCK
device found" (???). This is made via the Settings box. Using DOS's
SETVER doesn't have any effect.
Other similar programs like REDIR3, REDIR4, REDIRNP3 or REDIRNP4 crash
with the same message.
I guess that if I can get REDIRALL to work, all the rest will work
fine. Unfortunately, I have a 3Com Etherlink III, which I _must_ use
with NDIS (so I don't know if the problem is there or not).
Interestingly, if I _don't_ load the Protocol Manager and the
ELNK3.DOS driver at all, REDIRALL won't crash. Of course :-) BAN and
NDDGBAN won't load in that case...
I thank you for any clues on this. I'm evaluating OS/2 as an
alternative to NT 3.51, and if I can't get it working with Banyan
Vines, OS/2 will be out of the picture. We'll have to sell our souls
back to Bill Gates again :-)
Please reply by email. I scarcely have time to read the News :-(

PS. By the way, using Trumpet Winsock I can get TCP/IP working nicely
in WfWG...
PPS. Flames welcome :-) Specially if you include the FAQ's location
with them, of course :-)
