Much of what you wrote is quite interesting and I'm glad I had a
chance to read it. However, I have difficulty with how black and
white it appeared to be. Below are just a few examples.

Er, the answer is a qualified no.
- Should Lou Gerstner force Jim Pappos (of Lotus) to use OpenDoc?
No, but he should encourge the use of OpenDoc. After all, they
really should be working together.
- Should John M Thompson force the PC Co. to preload OS/2 on everything insight?
No, but OS/2 should be a preload option on everything in sight. Give
the buyer's choice.
- Should RS/6000 group bundle Notes/Domino instead of Netscape products? (They've started bubdlly Lotus recently).
No, but Notes/Domino should be an option instead of Netscape only.
- Should the AS/400 groups help PSP market OS/2?
Yes. To what extent is the question.
- Should IBM make silly consumer commercials extolling the virtues of OS/2 (a business OS)?
No. IBM shouldn't make silly commercials. IBM should make
intelligent commercials extolling the virtues of OS/2.
- Should all IBM units support OpenDoc, SOM/DSOM, Software Servers?
No, but most should.
Basically, the key problem is that IBM units are competing with each
other. They should be working together to promote each other. Instead
they seem willing to put the other unit out of business if necessary.
In reference to your claims that IBM is a hardware company. Yes it is.
It is also a software company. They even making video games. The 'M'
in IBM may stand for machines, but that doesn't change the fact that
they produce software and a lot of it. They can be both.
