> Same at Cebit '97 in Hannover. > Up to now NC seems just like a (modern ?) host-terminal and a (lousy ?) > X terminal. You have failed to read between the lines of the NC spec: An OS/2 computer is an NC and so is windows 95 (in potential). The idea of the NC is to provide a super platform that will be easily built on to of existing technologies and supply large organization's and small shops a unified base for which to write their applications (the concept of Java). Added to that NC's support a device which will support the concepts of Java and add lower maintenance costs, the no hard disk talk does not mean it doesn't need a HD but that the HD will be invisible to the user and irrelevant to the running applications. A dumb terminal is running a remote application and is DUMB. An NC runs and caches applications locally ,yet stores the data remotely (for backups). I am not saying that NC's are better for such as you or I, but an example of my company which has 35 skilled computer experts (programers) and 7 system administrators! Imagine how many sys admins a none computer company need's!
