I need to find a way to disable and re-enable screen updates in order to save processing time. For example, I am using GPI calls to clear a small area of the screen, draw a string of text, and display a bitmap. I'd like to disable screen updates before all three operations, and enable them after all three operations. This is possible using WinEnableWindowUpdate(), but it is necessary to call WinShowWindow() after re-enabling updates. The problem with WinShowWindow() is that it causes the entire window to be repainted, not just the invalid region. I tried trapping the WM_SHOW message, but couldn't get it to work. Is there a way to do what I need to do? Because of our design, the window is 640 x 480 pixels. We have a kind of homemade graphics client/server system, so it would require an overhaul to make these small areas individual windows. Thanks for any help.
