I have this wuestion from a friend of mine: He is working on a program that does DMA data transfers with a hardware data acquisition card and, after having correctly programmed the DMA chip, his program bombs out under OS/2 (sometimes makes OS/2 to crash as well!). This program works very well under normal DOS, in Windows 3.1, using special settings recommended by Microsoft for DMA transfers. Question: are there settings with OS/2 that allow DMA transfers to work better (at all, actually...)? He understands DMA transfers are virtualized and knows of the existence of the "VDMA.SYS" driver, but does not know how to use it. He is using a version of OS/2 that has been updated with IBM's CSD. Please feel free to reply by e-mail or in this forum, if you judge the subject to be of general interest. Many thanks! Real Ouellet LAVAL University Dept. Elec. Engineering rouellet@gel.ulaval.ca
