hi, i've got an NEC silentwriter model 95, which does both postscript level 2 and pcl 5 (laserjet 3). it comes with an autoswitching driver for dos/windows, but nothing for os2. i called NEC and got the codes that are required for mode switching, and have been playing around with writing an "lpr" program that will autoswitch, but that only works for files that i've already got on disk. so my question is: is it possible to write a program that could be attached say, to the laserjet 3 driver, which would intercept any job sent to the laserjet 3, then send the codes to switch to laserjet 3 mode, wait about 15 seconds (for the printer to complete the mode switch), then print the file(s), and finally switch back to postscript mode? this would be very convenient, and i would imagine there are others who could benefit from such a program.... thanks for any help! andy -- andy poulsen * apoulsen@athena.mit.edu, andy@huey.jpl.nasa.gov MIT mechanical engineering * *********************************************** jpl technical staff * "we engineers have a saying: (617) 227-7655 * we may be dumb, but we're slow..."
