>>The latest version of the Icon programming language, 8.7/8, is now >>available for the following platforms: From article <1993Jan24.012741.18426@news.columbia.edu>, by mig@cunixb.cc.columbia.edu (Meir I Green): > What is it? Icon is a high-level general-purpose procedural language with a lot of neat goodies, especially string scanning facilities, automatic storage management (garbage collection), flexible built-in data structures, and now easy-to-program windows/graphics/mouse facilities. Ease of programming is one of Icon's main features, so it is used a lot for prototyping and for utilities and quickie one-shot file manipulations. Syntax is somewhere in between Pascal and C, with semi-colons optional, and various radical language features that would take awhile to describe. I'd be happy to answer further questions by e-mail, or send them to icon-project@cs.arizona.edu. -- Clint Jeffery - cjeffery@cs.arizona.edu
