In article <4khecg$3g8e@news-s01.ny.us.ibm.net>, boisjol@ibm.net (Yves Boisjoly) says: >I have 2 16M SIMM in my Pentium 100Mhz. One is 60ns and the other is 70ns. The >thing that you have to care about is which one you will put in the first bank! >You must put the most rapid one in the first bank. If you put the 70ns in >the first bank, all your memory will works at 70ns. If you put the 60ns in >the first bank, and if with luck, the 70ns can work at 60ns, your system will >work at 60ns. If not, your system will simply switch at 70ns! This is untrue, even with EDO memory. The machine will work at whatever speed is selected for the memory (and in the case of EDO, at the speed per individual bank that you have selected). No motherboard chipset can "know", without being told via CMOS, the speed of a memory chip. Even if some manufacturer were to be stupid enough to make one that would "guess", it probably wouldn't hold true over various chips in different banks. -Kenny -- Kenneth R.
