Info sought on: Upgrading 486/33 to something more modern

I'm still running a 486/33 bought new in 1992 (when the complete system
cost exceeded four thousand pounds!). [Actually, I "upgraded" it
recently, by plugging in a 486DX2/66 chip that someone gave me. It
knocks spots off my GF's machine, which is also a 486DX2/66 with 32MB,
but runs ("crawls" might be more apposite:-) Windows'95.]
I see from the catalogue of a supplier that I use that they're doing an
upgrade offer at the moment, and I'd like advice as to whether what is on
offer would be good at running OS/2 Warp V4 (with FP6), since one hears
so many horror stories about incompatible mother boards and video cards.
The package they have put together consists of:
Gigabyte GA586 T2 Motherboard
IBM PR200MX CPU
Heatsink Fan
2 x 16MB EDO SIMMS *or* 32MB SDRAM
4MB S3 Verge DX PCI Graphics card
all for GBP145 + VAT
Has anyone experience of running any or all of this under OS/2? I'm
particularly trepidatious about the video card, because I've seen so many
moans about S3 (IIRC).
One other caveat that's worrying me is the lack of ISA slots on the mobo.
I see that there are only 3. My present system (in a full tower case,
with 9 ISA slots) has many of them filled; I have
HDC/FDC with 2 IDE controllers
Serial/Parallel card (usual 2xCOM, LPR, Joystick)
Enhanced VGA video card (based on ET4000)
Archiv streamer controller (daisy-chained from the FDC)
3Com 3C509Combo Ethernet card
Dynalink Datasound MWave combo modem/sound card
Teles-S0.3/16 ISDN card
Now obviously the first two of those are now integrated into the
motherboard, and the thrid is going to be occupying one of the PCI slots.
But I'm going to want all the other facilities still: I guess the easiest
(cheapest?) solution would be to get a PCI-based Ethernet card, wouldn't
it?
All advice gratefully received; please reply to the groups or by e-mail
(but not both). I promise to summarize any e-mail responses that aren't
otherwise mentioned in net.news.

I see the board has a pr200mmx which means its actually a Cyrix Chip.
With that in mind the motherboard should be fine. As for isa slots for
controller cards. That board has built in controllers no cards needed.
But your correct on the video part S3 sucks when it comes to OS/2 Warp 4
does have better support than ver 3 though. Well good luck.

I am still running 486 VLB motherboards from 1992 using the Kingston/AMD
5x86 TurboChip. It's excellent value. Plugs into the 486 cpu slot. Runs
OS/2 (and W95 when I must) beautifully. I highly recommend it. And the
advantage for you - as was for me - is that you could continue using all
the pieces you know and have carefully selected, and wouldn't need to go
through "trial by retailer" again.
