Sound and network problems on a laptop

I have a Panasonic cf-41 laptop to which I recently installed a Xircom
CE3 network card. This created a problem which I cannot solve.
When I origanlly installed connect on the laptop the onboard sound
card was originally configured to use DMA 1 and IRQ 10. Rebooting
after installation gave continuously looping sound effects. Changed
the IRQ to 5, upon suggestion of someone from Usenet group, and
everything worked fine. Until I installed the network
card. By default it used IRQ 5 also. I installed TCP/IP and accepted
the defaults for the network card (I took the simplest route), without
thinking about the sound card's IRQ. After TCP/IP installation I
changed the IRQ of the sound card, to 11 and then to 7 (I don't often
use a printer with laptop so it's still in polling modeso I can use
7). When I changed the sound card's IRQ to something other than 5 I
get continuously looping sound effects. I used RMVIEW to check the
IRQ's in use and 7, 10 and 11 weren't in use, so I don't think it's a
conflict problem. I'm using the drivers for the sound card that came
with connect. I'm doing a demo in a few days and I need sound. Please
help.
