dual boot to dos hangs

I am trying to dual boot from os/2 to dos. When the dos screen
appears I get the message:

       Non-system disk or disk error
Replace and press any key when ready

There is no disk in a:. I then use a dos boot disk to finish this
operation. After that I can dual boot back to os/2 without any
problem. I've run chkdsk /f on the partition and received no errors.
The drive is 340M. I want to boot to dos to uninstall os/2, then
reinstall os/2 in a logical partition. Any ideas are greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Xavier
