WARNING! Warp steals 88k from my Windows!

Maybe this is old stuff for other netters, but yesterday I discovered that
after installing OS/2 Warp (and I am pretty sure that this applies to the
2.1/Win also) and Boot Manager, suddenly I had 88 k less low memory (572k ->
484k in when booting DOS/Windows using the Boot Manager. This may not
be important to Windows, but may be critical for many DOS programs started
under Windows. I also found the same problem (and cure, see bellow) on a
friend's system.

Part of the explanation is given in the British magazine PCW, December -94
issue, p. 333. It appears that the WIN.COM windows loader has been replaced
by OS/2.
The old one is still there, renamed to WINDOS.COM. And the new WIN.COM steals
88k valuable DOS memory, even if I have not even booted OS/2! And the day I
take OS/2 away from my system, the new WIN.COM would most likely stay there
and continue to steal DOS memory.

Do other people experience this too?
Is this a known "feature" of OS/2 and if so, is there any documentation from IBM
about this in OS/2 Warp or 2.1/Win?

My tip if You see this problem, is when booting DOS, to start Windows using
WINDOS.COM instead,to regain the lost memory.

BTW, my system is a stand-alone, no-name, 66 MHz AMD, 8 MB, AMI bios,
DOS 6.22 (international), QEMM7.5, WfWG3.11 (Swedish), Cirrus 5428 VLB running
SVGA, both floppy sizes, CD-ROM and 14.4 modem. I was using the latest OS/2
Warp (Swedish) & the Boot Manager.

Comments please!

Regards, Ted
