Hard boot is the only way : I've found. : Why is my desktop crashing???? Hello, greets from singapore, well, i would suggest using inimaint.exe to check your .ini files. Inimaint is shareware, and the latest version is inim30k.zip. this program will check your ini files for inconsistencies which I suspect could be the problem. If this does not help, the next thing I would do if I were you, would be to press ALT-F1 during reboot, this will recreate your entire desktop and probably recreate your ini files too. Note, you have to press ALT-F1 when the bios beeps, just before the OS2 logo, keep pressing it till you get a message saying sumthing like "config.sys etc is backed up under config.001". The bad thing about this is that you would have lost all your previous settings for the desktop, and config.sys. and probably need to make your individual customisations again. *warning* a separate desktop called desktop1 will be created in your HDD, I strongly suggest that you do not delete your previous desktop, ie. C:\DESKTOP, even if it is empty. You mite experience problem with starting the new desktop. You should also check the *EXCELLENT* shareware/demoware program called WPSBK205.ZIP, WPS backup will backup your entire workplace shell (including folders, icons, placement of objects, dosbox settings, etc etc) and create a REXX command file. In the event of a crashed WPS, all you need is to boot up OS/2 from diskette and run the program, it will delete the existing desktop and recreate the stored one. *a must have*. hope this helps, felix eng Singapore OS/2 User Group
