Well this is quite a coincidence, I was just about to send out a request
for help on a similar (exact?) problem I just encountered. My system also
hangs when the grey screen (after the OS/2 logo screen) appears (always with
the clock showing).

However, my system refuses to boot OS/2 no matter what I try. On some
reboot attempts CHKDSK is run, but on others CHKDSK is not run. I do NOT
have SPKRDD.SYS installed.

Now the bizarre part...My system was working just fine last night. Today
its gone and I've changed NOTHING! I'm at a loss to explain what's going on.
Is there some procedure to try that can give me some clue as to why its hung?
I can boot DOS from diskette and things seem normal, but I want my OS/2 back!

For informational purposes I'm running 2.1, have a SoundBlaster card
installed, my machine is a 486-66 EISA with an AMI caching SCSI controller and
500 Meg hard drive and Toshiba 3401 CD-ROM. Oh yea, I am using a Sixgraph
P9000 card.

Any help would be greatly apprecieated!!!!!

Hey...ME TOO!

I bought a brand new PS/Value Point 486DX2, 66 MHz, 8 Mb RAM, 500 Mb HD,
SoundBlaster OPL3, Novell NE2000P/3 When I installed OS/2, same
thing would happen on boot. I have set up Boot Manager and it seemed to
happen more often when booting from DOS to OS/2 2.1 Never would happen
when re-booting to OS/2.

THEN...I did a little more reading. Print or read the README.INS on Disk
#3 of your OS/2 (Salmon label) disk set. It says if you have
a NON-MicroChannel (IE; ISA or EISA) computer, install OS/2 with BIOS
caching and Video Caching OFF. Install OS/2, then you can turn the caching
back on. The hangs we were getting are called "Trap 2" hangs, (no details
of what a Trap 2 is.) It says if you install OS/2 2.1 with caching
enabled, system will experience random "Trap 2" hangs. These hangs may
occur immediately, a week later, a month later.

After re-installing OS/2 2.1 with the above piece of info, I have
experienced NO HANGS on OS/2 boot. I also found the above suggestion in
the Prodigy OS/2 Club as a downloadable textfile.

Good luck.
