A month or two ago I posted problems with OS/2 Warp and my brand new
Pentium 90 with Adaptec 2940A and ATI Mach 64.
The system would lock up during disk 1, no matter what I did, including:
- Remming out non relevant drivers in the config.sys
- Getting the right version of the Adaptec drivers (Jan 94);
- Minimizing hardware;
- All the hints in the book;
- Hints from IBM;
- Hints from the net;
- etc, etc.
I finally got on track when I swapped the Adaptec card for a Buslogic
card, and the problem still occured. Acting on sheer desparation, I took
out the dual 3.5/5.25 FDD, and put in a plain 3.5 FDD. It worked!!!!
Of course, the problem never showed up under DOS!
So if you have problems like this, it may be the dual FDD. If you don't
have a dual FDD, verify all the hardware parts you possibly can, it may
save a lot of time.

I had the problem when my 5-1/4 inch drive wasn't connected. Removing it's entry in the BIOS cured the problem of installing... Check your BIOS settings too! :>Weather today: A little cloud, very hot, late change, 37C Here it's: Rain, rain, cold, wet, and dark... (54 N, 12 E) -- Hans D.
