OK I read all the messages and turned off all of the caches, shadow RAM, and anything else I could find in the CMOS setups that didn't seem to be necessary. I disconnected the SCSI card which runs the INSITE 20 meg floptical (and some people have said that this is INCOMPATIBLE with OS/2 anyway). I diconnected the ethernet network card. I have a PLAIN 486dx33 with 3 VESA local bus slots (AMI BIOS, 1992). I have a Diamond Speedstar Pro VESA 1 Meg video card. I have 8 Megs of RAM (all the same speed, 80 ns). I have two IDE hard disks, with a Multi I/O + IDE controller card. I DO NOT have Windows installed on my hard disk (we use a network version). Then, I get the error message, with trap address values, as follows: ________________________________________________________________________ TRAP 000d ERRCD=0000 ERACC=**** ERLIM=******** EAX=00000000 EBX=0000bfff ECX=000c190 EDX=00000080 ESI=fdf4c40c EDI=00004000 EBP=00005402 FLG=00012246 CS:EIP=0160:fff58086 CSACC=c09b CSLIM=ffffffff SS:ESP=0030:000053d2 SSACC=1097 SSLIM=00004773 DS=0158 DSACC=c093 DSLIM=ffffffff CR0=e001001b ES=0698 ESACC=0093 ESLIM=00003fff CR2=fff1f000 FS=03b8 FSACC=0093 FSLIM=00000023 GS=0000 GSACC=**** GSLIM=******** location ##0160:fff5fbd5 - 000d:9bd5 60000, 9084 0486000b4 Internal Revision 6.514 93/04/12 _________________________________________________________________________ (The text in this message is probably not verbatim, but the numbers come up the same, time and time again.) Any help would be appreciated (and yes, I have faxed IBM support, but have not had any reply from them yet.) I tend to agree with the guy who had had immense problems with his OS/2 setup: is it worth it? Phil Ryan Melbourne, Australia

I Have a similar setup (486DX2-66, 3 VLB, AMI BIOS 11/11/92, UMC CHipset, 8 MB RAM 70ns, 2 IDE Hard drives) and i couldn't install OS/2 because of TRAPS and SYS messages. However, i did solve my problem :). My solution, was to turn on the AUTO CONFIG option in the Advanced CMOS Settings. Give this a try. It just may work. Now , if i could only get OS/2 to install properly using a VLB IDE Controller....... (I can succesfully install using an ISA IDE Controller) Chinh -- +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | CHINH ( o.k.a Seeker) | Of all man's miseries the worst, | | int118z@aurora.cc.monash.edu.au | is possessing so much knowledge | | int118z@lindblat.cc.monash.edu.au| and having so little control | | Dept Comp Sci, Monash University | | | Melbourne, Australia | | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+

I had a trap e on the same location (that location might as well be a
common trap jump point so that it don't us really much, but anyhow) and
I solved it by loosing up my memory waitstates a bit. I had tweaked them
to the limit in my DOS days (27 fps in 3dbench on my 486/33 :) , but it
was to much for OS/2. I sat my AMI bios to auto config, and the trap
went away. Also remember that OS/2 don't like 'faster' IDE speed. Keep it
to 8Mhz.
Trap d is (from the faq): 000D General protection
[My speculation] If I remember right is it common for device drivers that
are porly written/can't keep up with the system.
Good luck.

Okay, I have turned off all my shadowing, caching, made my machine have 16Meg of memory and still my machine hangs when installing 2.1, Can anyone help me? Hardware: ami bios 16 meg of memory (took out 4 meg to make it 16 meg). 486DX2/33 with localbus 1542B scsi 2 300meg HP scsi disk drives (i also more hardware but removed it for installing, cause i had so much trouble). Also I have installed os2 on the same mother board, same chip, but with an ide interface. -- Bradley Smith brad@bradley.edu --- 309-677-2337 Network & Technical Services @ Bradley University, Peoria, IL "It's amazing how much scrap metal you get from 4 cans of beer"
