My CD-ROM is not working!

I finally received 2.1 beta and my CD-ROM is still not working under
OS/2. (Works fine under plain DOS 5.0 NOT in OS/2 DOS session)

   Setup: Toshiba XM3301
   Controller: Future Domain
   Other devices: Tape Back-up, Modem

Suppose to be OS/2 supports this without hassle but NO.

I am hesitant of running the beta install in plain DOS 5.0 (image). Has
anybody ever done this?

My CDROM.SYS is still dated 3/30/92 despite I had installed the SP's. Any
newer version.

Please help. I would like use OS/2 2.1.

I suggest you use the new CD-ROM support IBM has released as BETA maybe
4 weeks ago. You can find it on hobbes or on software.watson.ibm.com
(in the ews directory) --- a ZIP called somewhat like OS2CDROM.ZIP

The new drivers are using OS2ASPI and support audio as well...

Have you installed CD-ROM support? (Or is that a stupid question? But I had
to ask).

Your CONFIG.SYS should contain
a) a basedev command for your SCSI controller.
b) IFS=x:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q (x being the appropriate drive letter)
c) device=x:\OS2\CDROM.SYS /I /Q /N:4 (N:4 meaning SCSI Id 4)

Your CD-ROM should have the ID 4.
These settings should be made automatically, when you do a selective install
Be sure to include IBM CDROM as well, since IBM drives are really Toshibas
(or so I am told).
It is possible to use DOS to access the OS2 beta. There is good information
on this topic on the CD itself. To install the 2.1 beta from the CD you'll
have to make two disks from images on the CD. The future domain controller
is explicitly listed there as supported controller.

Happy new year!
