Hi, can anybody help me find the parameters needed for the pdisk_labels
files, we're getting to the point that we don't even care what kind of
drive it is, but we would prefer something around the 1GB size and half
height, the computer we're trying to add this drive to is an Aviion 310
and we do have room for the drive in the PHU, any help will be
appreciated, please let me know if I've left out any vital information.

Thanks

If you're talking about an AViiON 310 and Peripheral Housing Units,
then the disks in question must be SCSI disks. This makes it easy,
since DG/UX will automatically install a generic dummy label on any
SCSI disk. The SCSI protocol doesn't require that the OS know any
specific geometry information in advance; the OS can just query the
device about its capabilities. Real labels containing real geometry
info are required only for the old ESDI and SMD types of disk.

If the disk is a SCSI disk, the label is not used. This is because SCSI
disks handle all the various geometry values internally. You can still
install the generic SCSI label on the disk for completeness, and we
recommend you do so (because you must have a label on the disk if you
want to install bootstraps on it).

If the disk is an older SMD or ESDI disk, the label is important because
the controller reads it to get the geometry information.

All the label text description files are stored in this directory:

    /usr/etc/sysadm/pdisk_labels

The names of the files are the model numbers of the disks to which they
apply.

Each is a text file that you can print out to see what the values are.
The first line of each file identifies the types of disks it should be
used for.

If you format the disk with sysadm, you will be asked what type of
label to put on the disk. You can then type "?" to see the list, then
you can choose the appropriate one.
