I note that what DEC is licensing is not in fact a patent:
> 1.2 LICENSED PATENT(S) shall mean U.S. Patent Application Serial
> Number 07-647,959 entitled "Method and Apparatus for Generating a
> 48-bit Frame Check Sequence" and foreign counterparts thereto, and
> any and all continuations, divisions, reissues and improvements
> related thereto.
A patent application is quite different from a patent. In the U.S. at
least, the Patent Office treats applications as confidential. Has DEC
published the contents of this application?
As has been noted many times before, there is no guarantee which if
any of DEC's claims the Patent Office will allow. Will DEC give you
your money back if the patent is denied?
I don't understand why anyone would pay to license a patent that hasn't
been granted.
