I'm not going to comment on Steven's various claims about what the United States population wants, the history of patents, and the nature of comp.patents postings. I simply want to point out that the people against software patents engage in a far wider variety of tactics than the ``sky is falling tactic''; and where one tactic fails to inspire change, another may succeed. So it's not unreasonable to engage in the meta-discussion of whether software patents should exist. To say that we're stuck with them for good, so why talk about it, is naive. ---Dan
