If I had the money, I'd buy an HP scanner too. However, I just got a used
MicroTek ScanMaker II at a good price, so I bought it.

As to all the problems people are having, here is what I found out. To use
an ASPI compatible SCSI card (not the MicroTek card), the EPROM in the
scanner must be version 5.11 or greater. I had lots of problems trying to
use my scanner with my Adaptec card at first (EPROM v5.09).

I called MicroTek and was told that if I ordered the new ScanWizard
software for $49, I would get the EPROM for free. The EPROM that came was
version 5.61.

The scanner works fine now, with my Adaptec 2742T and Windows 95. Although
the MicroTek sales guy told me that the software I bought was a Windows 95
version, it was not. However, it seems to work fine. I would like to see a
real Windows 95 scanner driver, though.
