Bought SCSI ZIP drive... but can't install it?

I've just got my brand new SCSI ZIP drive. I've asked for the SCSI
version because my computer uses a SCSI/PCI controller and, therefore, I
naturally assumed that buying the parallel version would be a waste of
money (a slower device for the same amount).

I realized, however, that the ZIP drive requires an EXTERNAL SCSI
connection, and I found it (making sure that it really was the
controller's external connection by opening the computer). According to
the NCR 53C810 SCSI/PCI controller schematics, that's CON1. I was
puzzed, nevertheless... What's CON1? Is it really an external SCSI
connection?

The problem is: the controller and the other extremity of the ZIP
drive's cable have both "male" ends (is it called parallel or serial?).
Is there something like a male-female-female-male connector out there?
Where can I find it here in San Francisco? Will the drive run slower
because of that extra connection?

BTW: is my NCR controller that 'nasty' one, the one that sees the ZIP
drive as a regular floopy disk? I do know that Iomega sells its own SCSI
card, and I assume that the ZIP drive runs at peak performance when
connected to it, but my question is: do they have any PCI version of
that card, or will I have to look for another ISA slot while some PCI
slots keep begging for some card? <g>
