For several years, my Mustek flatbed scanner(MFS-6000CX) has happily coexisted
with my 486DX40. Last week I bought a USR Vi voice, data, fax modem(28.8).
Now the scanner hangs up in mid cycle. Calls to Mustek(they claim they have
not encountered this problem before) have been to no avail and the tech at
USR 's suggestions(changing IRQ and com) did not work. My mouse is on com
1(IRQ4), the modem has always been on com 2(IRQ3), and my sb 16 is on com
5(AMA1,7). I am running under win 95. Interestingly, if I remove the new
modem, the scanner begins to work properly. I have tried each of the 3 or 4
IRQs allowed by win 95 under com ports 2,3, and 4 and the results have been
nugatory. Addtionally, I have tried each of the 8 possible I/O addresses
under each IRQ. If any one has licked this problem, I would appreciate email
off list. Thanks Mike DiMaio

I want to than k all the wonderful people on the von list and the
members of the comp.periphs and comp.periphs.scsi news groups who made

various suggestions for resolve the problem set out below.
Ultimately, it was Mustek which resolved the problem. If one is
going to run a 28.8 modem(Sportster Vi or similar modem) with a Mustek

scanner(MPS6000CX), one must use a Mustek scsi card which is
revision 7(AZ SCSI I/O rev. F). Once the card arrived, it rsn out
of the box!! All I/O problems were cured. Apparently, revision A
had some wait statements removed which were to improve operation, but
which had the opposite effect. Those who contacted me about this
with similar problems, might want to contact Mustek at 18004MUSTEK.
They replaced the scsi card for free!

I beg the indulgence of the von readership with a question which,
though dealing with multimedia, is strictly not von related. If
some one can answer me off list, I would appreciate it. For several
years, i have been using a Mustek scanner(MPS-6000CX) in conjunction
with a 486. Earlier this week I replaced a generic 14.4 voice modem
with a USR Vi 28.8. voice , fax, data modem. The scanner locks up
halfway through its cycle if the modem is in a slot(whether or not it
is even engaged to win 95. The modem is on com 2, IRQ3, my mouse is
on com 1, IRQ 4. My sb 16(my link to von :-) ) is on IRQ5. DMA 1,7
respectively. None of the eight possible settings for I/O on the
scsi board will work . If I remove the new modem, the scanner works
perfectly. Calls to Mustek(they claim not to have encountered the
problem before) were to no avail, while all the suggestions pout
forward by USR were useless(e.g., moving sb16 to IRQ 10, and putting
modem on com 3 on IRQ 5. I did try out all possible combinations of
com port and IRQ thatwin 95 would allow(3 ports, roughly 3 IRQ
possibilities per port). Also add in 8 possible I/O addresses for
each IRQ. Has any one encountered a solution for this problem?
