   just what is Caller ID going to do for you?  the phone rings.  the display
   shows a number you've never seen before.  are you going to answer it?

   No, my answering machine answers it.


And what if that was one of your friends calling, they're at a
restaurant or bar or just at a pay phone, they wanted to catch you to
join them, but "you're not home, so bye!" ?

Or even worse, if the moment they hear the answering machine they
assume you're not home, and just hang up since the message is only
relevant if you can speak immediately?

Where do you draw the line between privacy and isolationism?
Personally, if I had to reach you for some reason, and had to
constantly deal with your machine, I would give up, be it my loss or
yours.
