My experiences:

I have  tried MacTCP 1.1.1  with system 7.0.1 (+ Tuneups etc) on a MacPlus
(localtalk connection), with NO SUCCESS.  TCP connections were very unreliable
and often "timed out". It failure similar symtoms to MacTCP 1.1 
Going back to MACTCP 1.1+  resolved all the problems......................
