Given that there were a few informative replies to the problem of getting the root directory of an aufs volume to display as a user wanted I thought I'd have another try at getting help me with this. Basically, if I double click on a document for which the application is on an aufs volume the application will not be found unless the folder which it is in is currently open. I setup a server volume, copied Resedit onto it then deleted it from my disk. I double clicked on a Resedit document and was told that the application could not be found. I opened it the folder (the server volume) it was in, double clicked on the document and the application was found. When I closed the folder again it wasn't found... It behaves the same way for things in the top level of a server or for things in folders in a server. My machine is a Q700 running 7.01 but it happens on anything. The server is a DecStation 500/200 running Ultrix 4.1 and CAP 6.0pl125. Here is the directory structure of the server called test_mac. drwxr-xr-x 2 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 14:57 .finderinfo drwxr-xr-x 4 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 14:59 test test: total 10 drwxr-xr-x 4 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 14:59 . drwxr-xr-x 8 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 14:55 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 bruce-b 251 Jan 12 14:57 .ADeskTop -rw-rw-r-- 1 bruce-b 4880 Jan 12 14:49 .IDeskTop drwxr-xr-x 2 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 15:00 .finderinfo drwxr-xr-x 2 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 14:57 .resource -rwxr-xr-x 1 bruce-b 0 Jan 12 14:48 ResEdit test/.finderinfo: total 3 drwxr-xr-x 2 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 15:00 . drwxr-xr-x 4 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 14:59 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 bruce-b 300 Jan 12 14:51 ResEdit test/.resource: total 738 drwxr-xr-x 2 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 14:57 . drwxr-xr-x 4 bruce-b 512 Jan 12 14:59 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 bruce-b 743448 Jan 12 15:04 ResEdit Any help would be greatly appreciated. --- Bruce Benson. ,_o ,__o Department of Computer Science. _-\_\,\_<, University of Auckland.
