VM/CMS KERMIT-ZYPLEX-MODEM - How do I get KERMIT to work?

Okay, Here we go !
I am trying to do a KERMIT transfer from CMS to a PC. (or a MAC or an AMIGA)
This happens in either TEXT or BINARY mode.
I have tried it with CMS in server mode also.
CMS version 4.2.3 (Just got it today!)
The connection is as follows - (please bear with a limited knowledge base)
 
IBM PS/2 Model 50 Connected thru a modem (1200baud 8-N-1)
to a ZYPLEX BOX (black box to me)(see note)
thru TCP/IP to
CMS rel. 8.
 
note: The ZYPLEX takes a dialup connection and performs a TELNET to the machine
you want to get to. IE, dial-in ; get menu; select computer; connect to compute
r.
 
I have tried various settings for CMS and I can't communicate.
The CMS kermit works fine through the trusty 7171 and a modem !
If anyone has a similiar setup and has it working, please let me know.
If you have no idea what I am talking about, I understand.
