How can I communicate with BSC (best from UNIX) ?

ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH BSC-1 on IBM360 ???

For an application in Moscow we will have to communicate with an IBM-360 featuring
a BSC-1 (or BSC1 ?) interface. So far we have not been provided with any specification
(SW/HW) of this interface, so any information or pointers would be welcome.

The application will have to run either from a UNIX-box or from a microVAX, but the latter
would probably not operate under ULTRIX but something more antiquate.
So we would especially be interested in anything running on these platforms.
Even pointers to commercial products would be welcome.

Many thanks in advance,

Wolfram Kahl

Most Unix boxes support some form of BSC protocol. Most often you'll see
two forms: 3270 (interactive terminal) and 2780/3780/2770 (batch device,
meaning it sends and receives files). You may run across HASP Multileaving
as well ... that's an advanced batch-mode protocol supporting bidirectional
file transfers to multiple devices. Batch devices means you are usually
sending 80-byte records (80 column punched cards) and receiving 132-byte
printer records or 80-byte punched cards.

BSC usually means EBCDIC character sets. ASCII may be supported.
