Hi all I have had quite a number of responses about the Estelle tools that I have written, so I think the best would be to post them on the net. I am not quite sure whether to post them to comp.binaries.ibm.pc or to this group; if anyone feels strongly about the decision let me know. I will probably post them next week; this will give me a chance to get the user manual and other documentation up to date. The documentation is in LaTeX format, BTW. I had a query about whether the software includes any ASN.1 tools, or has anything to do with ISODE. The answer is no on both counts. I wrote these tools primarily for simulation and performance analysis, so things like precise data structure layout were not important. Also, some people have asked about whether there is a non-DOS (I presume this means UNIX) version. Well, at one point the software compiled and ran on Sun SPARCstations. As I no longer have easy access to such machines, I cannot guarantee that such a port is still trivial to do. Also, I am reluctant at this stage to release the source code, at least until the issue has been discussed more fully with my thesis supervisor. Perhaps the best approach is to release the DOS version, and if people actually find it useful, the issue of source code can be broached once again. Personally I am reluctant to spend too much time working on this software (porting, etc), as there is no remuneration involved and time, as always, is in short and precious supply. So, if I did post source, I would be prepared to act as a central coordinator if others made changes, but I would not be prepared to document the internal workings of the whole system at this stage - i.e., you would be on your own in understanding the source. I will keep everyone informed of further developments Best wishes Graham -- Graham Wheeler | "That which is weak conquers the strong, Software Systems Engineer/Student | that which is soft conquers the hard."
