A question regarding DA's. The 84/88 standard requires that if
you use a DDA you must also specify a PRMD or S field.
Why? I can understand the PRMD, but not the S. And for a mail system,
like MCImail, which does not use a PRMD, they "throw away" the S field.
Thanks....................

The contrary is X.400(84), chapter 3.3.2, where Variant 2 O/R names
consist of Country, ADMD, UA unique numeric identifier and DDAs.
No Surname or PRMD is even ALLOWED.
Also, it is common for DD.RFC-822 attributes (that you, from your
address, should see a lot of if Sprint's gateway is RFC-1327 compliant)
to run around without PRMD fields, and they NEVER have surname fields.
(See any DDA-using message from C=fi;ADMD=funet, for instance)
So the rule you refer to is broken by a lot of existing systems.
