CMOL question?

The HLM(Heterogenous Lan Management) specifications allow the use of
Discovery frames.
My question is whether these discovery frames(Find and Found to be
precise) are similar to the Echo packets found in protocol stacks
like ARPA(ICMP Echo) or XNS(Echo packet).
Can they be used to perform the same functionality?

Thanks
Rohit Mital
