Can someone give me pointers to these? Do they exist? Tannenbaum's
book on networks says very little about the SESSION layer - possibly
more work has been done in this area since then.

I am especially intereted in protocols that manage dial-up sessions.

Any help is welcome.

The best book I've dealt with recently is "UNIX Network Programming" by
Stevens. According to him, layers 5 thru 7 are left to the user process.

Also, as I understand it, dial-up sessions (like SLIP) should probably be
classified as a OSI-Layer-3 or Network-layer protocol.
